Nantes, France

So far in our story we took the wrong train from Tours and wound up in Nantes instead of Brest and had got a hotel for the night.  In the morning, I was feeling pretty sick, so we had a low key day of shopping and walking around the town.  Luckily, the hotel was kind enough to let us leave our bags near the desk to pick up later.  I may have been sick, but I still had plenty of room when I saw that they had been just removing large chocolate croissants out of the oven.  I couldn't resist and found myself purchasing one immediately, while it was still warm.  Joni had a beignet that was filled with chocolate, however it wasn't warm and she didn't enjoy it as much.

As we walked around we also picked up some chocolates from a chocolatier and liquour shoppe, we have been snacking on them through Spain.  Quite a diet of chocolate croissants for breakfast and chocolates for snack huh?  At least we didn't have a chocolate lunch.  Instead, we found a nice looking french restaurant and decided to go with their special of one appetizer and one dessert.  Not understanding the french menu, we decided to order whatever didn't have meat, as we are practicing pesco vegetarians.  I had a cheese quiche on a light salad with raw beef, which I moved to the side, and a very fresh creme brulee.  Joni was not so lucky and wound up with a glass full of soggy vegatables covered in thick goat cheese with smoked salmon.

It got slightly better for her when she realized that they gave us bread for her to put the stuff on, but before that she had been eating it with a spoon and is now turned out of goat cheese and smoked salmon for quite some time.  And then for dessert she had some peaches and strawberries over ice cream, which would have been nice, except that she was cold.

The Amazing Balancing Cherub

Yes, enough about food!  What else happened?  Well, as you can see in the pictures, there was a lot of architecture to see, including my favorite statue, the lamp balancing cherub.  When we felt like moving on, we grabbed our bags and headed to the train station.  After waiting through the line, we got to a ticket agent that was able to communicate both in German and English.  He was in a lighter mood and laughed quite a lot, we had a good time with him and were able to not only book a train to Brest but also a hotel for when we got there.  The train didn't leave for several hours so we decided to walk over to the park to kill some time and have some of the afore mentioned chocolates.
